Tourist Attractions

Levelland is fondly called “City of Mosaics” because of the outdoor mosaics found all over the city. The very first mosaic unveiled to the public adorns the Fine Arts Building of the South Plains College. Professor Don Stroud is credited for coming up with the concept of making art more accessible to the public through these lovely mosaics. Today, there are seven buildings in Levelland that are decorated with mosaics, drawing people’s attention on a daily basis. In addition to that, the college boasts an exquisite array of paintings from the 18th to 20th century forming the rare Marjorie Merriweather Post Art Collection. Post was a socialite and founder of General Foods who was a major benefactor of the college.
