Way to Choose Best Backpack

The backpack is perhaps the most used item, from the small ones carried everywhere to the large and sophisticated expeditions. But they are not all the same, and the choice of one depends on the activity and other factors.

As a user, one has to observe its characteristics before purchasing one. This fact influences the backpack’s shape and suspension system and the way the load is distributed inside: the heaviest objects must be stored close to the back and above (shoulder area), and the lighter ones will be placed in the peripheral and inferior zone.

Tips to choose the best Best Backpack

  • Back systems

The backpacks that rest directly on the back should always have a padded back to provide further stability and comfort. In some models, this is achieved by incorporating a foam rubber mat that may or may not be removable.

  • Easy to Carry

These anatomical backpacks fit closely to the back and are especially suitable for climbing, backcountry skiing or alpine skiing off-piste, or cycling. Large-capacity backpacks (so-called trekking backpacks), with a volume ranging from approximately 50 to 70 liters, or even more, must be equipped with light, stable and anatomical armor. The best solution is offered by The North Face Jester Backpack.

  • Waterproof

When it comes to waterproofing, no backpack fabric is waterproof. To achieve an acceptable degree of impermeability (up to a maximum water column of 1,000 mm), the material must have an inner lining between one and three layers. The PU coating fabric is soft and smooth to the touch; the acrylic coating is cheaper, but fabric treated in this way tends to wrinkle, and PVC-coated materials are very thick, heavy, and practically waterproof. They are used mainly in cheap backpacks.

With use, the fabric hardens, and the coating layer deteriorates, which means that its impermeability decreases over time. For safe protection against moisture, there are nylon covers.

The weight of the backpack is significant. Cordura material, which is more robust, weighs more than backpack nylon. But there are also substantial differences in weight due to the type of construction used by manufacturers.
