Australia is the land of the fair go, full of opportunity, new experiences and a multicultural, global society. And that’s why we have many individuals and families from across the world coming to our shores to experiencing living on this beautiful part of the world. With beautiful beaches, stunning wildlife parks, bustling cities and a range of communities – everyone can find a home here. However, relocating to another country is no east feat. And as exciting as the time is, it can also be rather overwhelming as there is a lot to prepare. Which is why we have decided some key things to consider when preparing for your move to Australia. Of course, the first step is getting your visas sorted to legally move to the country and once that is sorted, the bulk of the planning begins.
6 months to your relocation
One of the most important things to prepare for is being able to financial support yourself (and your family) once you move. Start by updating you resume and doing research on the Australian job market; maybe even consider RPL assessments so you have official certification from Australia that you have the right skills for whatever industry you’re looking to work in. Next, depending on what visa you have, you’ll want to organise a health insurance cover so you can be sure you are covered for any medical expenses as soon as you arrive in the country. If you have children that are coming along with you, it’s a good time to start looking into the education institutions that are best suited to for your children. And once you’ve made your decision, get in touch with the school of your choice so that your child can start studying once you have relocated. Finding a forever home might take some time, so it might be more convenient to find temporary accommodation for when you first arrive in the country. Finally, you should start organising your belongings – decide what you want to bring with you and what you need to sell; less is more in this instance as shipping thing across countries can be expensive.
1 month to your relocation
With a month left to your relocation day, this is when you want to make sure you have everything you need and make any organisations for the day you arrive. Start off with figuring out what transportation from the airport and double-check that you have accommodation sorted for the day you arrive. Next you want to make sure you have all the necessary documents in order: from financial statements, passports, visa documents, medical files, utility statements and any other documents you feel will be necessary. Ensure all of your belongings that are being shipped have been accounted for as well as make sure you have enough currency exchanged into AUD. Now would also be a good time to familiarise yourself with the area you are moving too so you are more prepared by the time you arrive. And of course, if you have yet to find a job in Australia, make sure you are prepared with your all your documents and RPL certificate so you can start off strong with your job hunt when you arrive.
