Top Directors of Telugu Cinema: Trivikram Srinivas

Having nicknamed as Maatala Maantrikudu (Wizard of Words) or Guruji in the Telugu filming Industry, Trivikram Srinivas is one of the best, if not the best, film director in town. Known to be multi-talented in the art of cinema, Srivinas has directed and produced countless screenplays, dialogues, advertisements and most importantly, films for the Telegu-speaking crowd.

Having started his career in 1999, Srivinas has held many behind-the-scenes roles as screenwriting and directing. His debut film, Nuvve Nuvve, has garnered a lot of attention and even a silver-prized Nandi Award for Best Feature Film. Over the years, Srivinas has solidified his reputation for directing highly unconventional movies, which involved a high dose of comedy, some fast-paced repartee, farcical situations, escapist themes, and comedy thriller plot lines. The subjects within his movies are also mostly focused on action, emotion, courtship, family and marriage.This bold approach to making films has awarded Trivikram Srinivas with a lot of awards, most notably the B. N. Reddy National Award, for his constant contribution to Indian cinema. Within his long lines of films, there are a few movies that left a huge impression on movie-goers, namely Attarintiki Daredi, Julayi, and Jalsa.

Attarintiki Daredi (2013)

This Telugu-language comedy-drama film was released in the fall of 2013 and has been a crowd favorite ever since. The film talks about the journey of Gautham Nanda who promised to bring his adoptive grandfather, Raghunandan, his estranged daughter, Sunanda, back after their falling out. Gautham infiltrated Sunanda’s home by being hired as their family driver. Amidst his plan, Gautham and Sunanda’s daughter, Sashi, fell in love with one another while complications continue to arise for our hero on his journey to reunite the estranged father and daughter duo.

Julayi (2012)

Another Trivikram Srinivas masterpiece, this action comedy film has garnered a lot of attention for its star-studded lineup and intriguing storyline. The movie follows the protagonist, Ravi, who got caught in a betting ring before uncovering a larger crime that was played while the betting ring was raided. Aided by several officers, Ravi managed to uncover a bank robbery and managed to help put an end it. Due to the failed plan, the mastermind behind the robbery, Bittu, seeks out Ravi to enact his revenge. Towards the end of the movie, we get to find whether Ravi gets to resolve his issue with an issue and whether the street life is really for him.

Jalsa (2008)

This movie tells the story of post-grad university student Sanjay Sahu aka Sanju, who had a tumultuous upbringing before he became who he is today. After getting involved with his ex-girlfriend’s younger sister, Bhagi, Sanju was forced to reopen his past and meet up with people from his ex-Naxalites days. After saving Bhagi from street thugs, Sanju became a wanted man by Damodar Reddy, a powerful land grabber who, while out on parole, tracks down Sanju for hurting his one, who was one of the street thugs harassing Bhagi. Throughout the movie, we find Sanju navigating through prison and life after he was released as well as what becomes of his love line with Bhagi.
