Measuring the Window

Once you know if you’re going with an inside or outside mount, you can then measure accordingly. For inside mounts you need to focus on measuring the inside of the window frame at three places across the width and the height for accuracy. For outside mounts, measure the area of the window that you want to be covered by your blinds or shades.

When you take down your measurements, always mark it down to the nearest 1/8 inch. If your round up to a half or even a whole inch your measurements will be off and the blinds or shades won’t fit properly. You should also take care not to transpose your measurements.

Writing down your measurements should be done in a uniform manner where the width is shown first followed by the height. So if your window is 47 inches wide and 57 inches high, you would mark it down as 47×57.
